Naegle Nover: Week 2 in Debrecen

This week has gone by so quickly!! I am loving serving here in Debrecen. My companions are great, the work is going, and the people are good.

One of our investigators, Konrad, is a man who is from Germany but married a Hungarian and has been living here for over 20 years or something like that. He has now been cigarette and coffee free for a week! It is so great because he had a lot of relapses when I first came but now he is staying strong.

We had a fun experience going to a different church this week (on Wednesday). It doesn't really have a name but we refer to it as The Brotherhood. We went because we kind of did a trade. Ben came to our church and then we went to his. It was cool to experience something different and the people were very nice. They love the Bible and Jesus Christ and the sermon was very nice but difficult for me to follow well in Hungarian. They did question us a lot afterwards but we handled it well and it was a positive experience. The only bummer is that one of our investigators who is an older lady with Alzheimer's told us later in the week that she can't come to our church anymore (even though she loved it when she went) because she's been going to the Brotherhood for over 10 years. Someone had called her and told her about us coming and I think that she doesn't really go to the Brotherhood that much but her daughter chewed her out for going to our church.

On Fridays we have a "palacsinta night" where we do some sort of activity and this week we learned how to make stuffed paprika. It was good, as always. I have really learned to love Hungarian food. The flavors are normal to me now and even though I always like them, it feels more like enjoyable food rather than a new experience.

The people here are so cool. There is a girl in the branch named Dori that we love and we are good friends because we work with her a ton. She and her brother Vili (who is the mission correlation leader) have been members for four years or so but their dad is not. He finally gave Dori permission this week to go on a mission. She has been asking for two years or so now and she will be such a good missionary. Another member is Demi. He is a recent convert and he is hilarious!! He is Chinese and he attends university here but he does not speak English well at all and he is a major spaz so we always love teaching him. Luckily this really cool recent convert named Michal who is Taiwanese and speaks Chinese is here too so he can translate to Demi when we teach.

We have a hard time finding time to find with all our programs so we didn't have the best success finding new people this past week. But, we have made plans to start doing better and once we get that going, things will be really peachy. I am getting super excited for General Conference. It's not that far away. I can't believe that last time I watched Conference I was back in Kispest still in training. Time is going by. This week I will hit ten months on my mission. I feel really blessed to be here and to be on a mission. I know the gospel is true and that it has given me so much hope and peace and guidance in my life. It is a huge blessing to see others change as they hear and act upon the message that we have to share.
